Pedro de Paiva

Pedro De Paiva. Engineer and founder.

I'm a mechanical engineer and the founder of Zigrawbohnbawerick Pty Ltd. I build software products for problems I know firsthand, and I make CAD tools free under my own name.

From bill of materials to record book

Case study
MRB Platform
Sheet
4 of 6

Engineered equipment ships with a Manufacturer's Record Book: a dossier of material certificates, weld records and tests. Gathering those documents while tracking quotes, purchase orders and changing parts often means spreadsheets, email and loose PDFs. I built the MRB Platform to keep that chain together and show missing documents before handover.

  1. STATION 01

    Sync parts

Bring the bill of materials in from CAD and reconcile changes as the design evolves.

  2. STATION 02

    Work the parts

Group parts and select lines for requests for quote.

  3. STATION 03

    Quote and buy

Compare supplier quotes and issue purchase orders.

  4. STATION 04

    Track and compile

Check received documents against requirements and compile a bookmarked PDF binder.

DNV-certified subsea deployment frame

Designed and certified a welded structural frame for deploying offshore intervention tooling: a full DNV-ST-E273 (2.7-3) package with structural FEA, fatigue and lifting assessment, weld design, and third-party approval.

150-tonne hydraulic jacking tool

A complete mechanical and hydraulic system for subsea wellhead-cap ejection. 150 t capacity, FEA-validated, with DNV lifting studies and the bolted-joint and seal-gland procedures I authored as the company standard. It performed flawlessly in the field.

$100M+ dust-extraction programme

As lead designer for Tier-1 mining operators, I delivered large-scale dust-extraction plants. The largest was a 7-storey steel structure with 60+ t of ductwork routed from laser-scanned point clouds through a live mine site. I led a team of three from concept to fabrication drawings.

At every stop I automated the grind: a parametric dust-collector that took design from weeks to hours, and an Excel/VBA procurement-and-MRB system that saved ~$200k a year. That experience still informs what I build.

AEight years designing real equipment: subsea tooling, industrial plants, mining structures.
BLearned to ship software. Designed and built the MRB Platform solo, end to end.
CFounded Zigrawbohnbawerick Pty Ltd. Builds products there and keeps SolidDraft and Catallax free under his own name.

I'm a mechanical engineer who got tired of watching solid engineering work get strangled by bureaucracy, endless reviews, and the unrelenting, indiscriminate use of Excel spreadsheets.

So in the age of AI, I "learned" how to build it myself. I couldn't have told you what a REST endpoint was a couple of months ago, but I sure as hell can get 20 agents competing for the best way to explain it like I'm 12, then ruthlessly steer myself toward grounded, production-ready decisions. Full-stack, end-to-end: domain model and architecture all the way through CI/CD pipelines and Docker deployments.

Look around — do I look like I have time to learn anything about UX design and logos? I have absolutely no idea what color matches whatever emotion. But if it quacks like a duck, and solves a real problem, it goes in the pond. The MRB Platform was one result: a production-shaped system I designed and built solo, the same kind of integrated internal tool a project-based engineering business actually needs.

Eight years designing real equipment (subsea tooling, industrial plants, mining structures) taught me where software can help. Now I build products through Zigrawbohnbawerick Pty Ltd and keep SolidDraft and Catallax free under my own name.
